news-details

Hanwha Ocean (formerly Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) has outperformed its competitor HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in the naval vessel order competition for the first time since joining the Hanwha Group.

According to the shipbuilding industry on July 14, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration selected Hanwha Ocean as the priority negotiator for the construction of the Ulsan-class Batch-III 5th and 6th vessels, also known as the next-generation frigate of the Navy.

Hanwha Ocean outperformed HD Hyundai Heavy Industries by a margin of 0.1422 points, with a final score of 91.8855 points against Hyundai's total of 91.7433 points.

While HD Hyundai Heavy Industries led by 0.9735 points in the technical capability evaluation, which accounts for 80 out of a total of 100 points, it received deductions due to its record of unfair practices.

Meanwhile, the Ulsan-class Batch-III that Hanwha Ocean has ordered is a latest generation frigate construction project replacing old frigates (FF) and patrol combat corvettes (PCC). The military authorities plan to introduce a total of 6 Ulsan-class Batch-III ships, with the 5th and 6th vessels being the final batch.
